*Word limits exclude references and abstract. These are the journal's own limits, aligned with common biomedical practice and ICMJE recommendations.

# Student Research Report. The faculty mentor is named as a co-author. IEC approval — or a stated exemption — and the ICMR-STS reference number must both be given. Up to 4 tables and figures, and no more than 20 references.

Manuscript skeletons

Start from a ready-made Word file

Each skeleton carries the headings in order, its own word and abstract limits, the declaration blocks and Vancouver reference examples. Write inside it in Word, then paste it across box by box on the submission page.

Student research is especially welcome. JCAP offers a dedicated, citable home for ICMR-STS projects carried out by MBBS students under faculty guidance. Submissions must name the faculty mentor as a co-author and follow the IMRaD structure — a supportive first step in scientific writing for undergraduates.

Manuscript structure

How to organise your submission

Submission is by pasting from Word, not by uploading files. The submission page gives you a separate box for each part, so nothing has to be assembled into one document beforehand.

Formatting

Preparation

Write in Word as you normally would. Bold, italics, headings, lists and tables are all carried across when you paste, so there is no need to strip your formatting. Because the manuscript is pasted rather than uploaded, page size, line spacing and line numbering do not apply.

References

Citation style

References follow the Vancouver style (ICMJE), numbered in the order they appear in the text. List all authors up to six; for seven or more, list the first six followed by "et al." Journal names abbreviated per Index Medicus.

Ethics & consent

Mandatory declarations

Plagiarism

Similarity screening

All manuscripts are screened for similarity before review. Submissions with a similarity index above 15% (excluding the reference list, correctly quoted and attributed material, and standard boilerplate phrasing such as common methodological and statistical-reporting expressions) are returned to authors before review. Plagiarism, data fabrication, and duplicate submission are handled per COPE flowcharts. Full details are given in the Peer Review Policy.

Authorship & disclosures

Requirements

Every co-author confirms for themselves. On submission, the Journal of Clinical & Applied Pharmacology (JCAP) writes to each named co-author with a private link of their own, asking them to say whether they are an author of this work. They answer yes, no, or ask to be contacted first, and may correct their own name, affiliation, ORCID iD and contributor roles on the same page. What a co-author says about their own contribution is what the journal prints.

Silence is not taken as consent. The manuscript is not held up while we wait, but no manuscript is accepted for publication while a co-author has refused authorship or asked to be contacted. The journal does not adjudicate authorship disputes: where one cannot be settled between the authors, the matter is referred to the head of department or the institutional ethics committee, and the manuscript waits — it is not rejected on its merits. Requests to add, remove or reorder authors after submission must be made in writing by the corresponding author, with the agreement of all authors, and are handled per COPE guidance.

Licensing & charges

Open access

The Journal of Clinical & Applied Pharmacology (JCAP) is fully open access. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, and authors retain copyright.

Article processing charge

There is no charge to publish in JCAP. There is no submission fee, no article processing charge, and no publication fee of any kind. Colour figures, supplementary files and the PDF are all included.

Should any charge ever be introduced, it will be announced on this page before it takes effect and will never be applied to a manuscript already submitted.

Peer review

How manuscripts are handled

Read the full policy. Our complete Peer Review Policy sets out the review process step by step, what is and is not included in similarity screening, reviewer confidentiality and conflict-of-interest rules, and how appeals are handled.

After acceptance

What the journal may change in your manuscript

Accepted manuscripts are copy-edited. The journal may:

The journal does not alter the meaning of a sentence, the data, the analysis, the interpretation or the conclusions. It does not add or remove a reference of its own accord, and it does not change the author list, the affiliations or the declarations. Where a change would touch meaning, we ask you.

You see the article as it will appear before it is published, and you remain responsible for its content.

Your details. The journal holds the names, email addresses, affiliations and manuscripts you send us, for the purpose of handling your submission and, if it is accepted, publishing it. They are seen by the editorial office and, in blinded form, by reviewers. They are not sold, and not passed to anyone else except as the law requires. Write to admin@jcapjournal.org to see, correct or ask us to erase what we hold, except where a published article must remain part of the scholarly record.

After review

Revising your manuscript

You do not resubmit a whole new document. Your private link opens your own manuscript with each reviewer's remarks marked in colour on the exact words or figure they refer to.

Submit your manuscript

Have your manuscript open in Word, then work through the submission page box by box, pasting each part as you go. You will receive an acknowledgement email with your manuscript reference number.
